Church Planting Movement (CPM)

A Church Planting Movement (CPM) is qualitatively different from traditional Christian ministry and has unique definitions for Church and Church Planting:

Church:–  A group of local baptized believers who gather regularly for worship, fellowship, and study of the Word of God and who seek to engage in all the functions of church, particularly as expressed in the life of the early Church in Acts 2:42-47. These groups of local baptized believers obey Christ to reach their communities.

Church Planting: – Planting churches is the work of God, a divinely produced phenomenon.  Jesus said, “I will build my church….”  (Matthew 16:18).  The church planter’s job is to discover what God is doing and cooperate with Him.  Imagine being part of those events when “everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles” (Acts 2:43)!  The account of those awesome events makes it clear that the apostles were not the builders of the church but the catalysts.

The church emerges (is planted) when the seed of the gospel is planted in the hearts of men and women and they are encouraged to gather for prayers, worship, fellowship, encouragement, support, mutual accountability, and mission. This kind of church creates disciples and new church development which becomes the spontaneous and natural outcome of effective disciple making. Another name for this kind of disciple making is Disciple Making Movement.
